The Christmas holiday to Europe begins and ends in Munich.
We arrive at 6.30am Boxing Day morning and the fellow travellers have a full day planned—English Garden, Marienplatz and Nymphenburg Palace. We get full use of our €24.30 public transport ticket for the day.
Jet lag sets in; I find myself taking more photos of the local bird life than the amazing Nymphenburg Palace in front of me. Beautiful swans though...
The day trip to Nuremberg begins with a 2-hour train ride from Munich.
The local tourist office gave great advice on what to do on our 1-day express visit to the city. We decide on Nuremberg old town and the unfinished remains of the Congress Hall of the former Nazi party rallies (Documentation Centre).
No better way to spend our final day in Germany than touring the fairytale castle, Neuschwanstein, built by King Ludwig II (started in 1869, completed in 1886). A remarkable building that is free to view from a purpose-built platform perched in the rugged hills above the village of Hohenschwangau.
I knew what to expect, and I was in photography heaven...
Neuschwanstein Castle one side, the other is this...
The view straight down from the viewing platform.
