Florence
Autumn 2015

Our week-long stay in the
Tuscan hills
ended with an hour-long drive to Florence. Most of the group caught the train from Florence to Cinque Terre as Ryan and I booked into a hotel near Santa Maria Novella—the central train station in Florence.
The atmosphere was set by the ‘delightful’ hotel attendant who advised “You’re name might be Hilton, but we are definitely not the Hilton”. Check-in was from 3pm to 5pm (no early check-ins or bag-drop—strictly enforced!), the internet didn’t work and no staff were available on Sunday’s; convenient, as we checked in at 3.30pm on a Saturday and found out the internet wasn’t working after the attendant left the office.
Nevertheless, we are on holidays and will have fun…
Piazzale Michelangelo
Elevated nicely to take in sweeping views of Florence, Michelangelo Square provided postcard photo opportunities.

Not our favourite destination of the holiday, but Florence did provide pleasant summer-like conditions for our three days in town—European summer, not the sweltering conditions we experience back home.

Of all the cities I’ve visited throughout my travels, never have I noticed the amount of tourists like I did in Florence. .

Time to leave Florence and head for the mountains. Next stop, Cuneo.
